Specifications

Standard Features Optics and Light

15x or 22x Magnification

Doculus Lumus® is available with 15x and 22x magnification. The built-in glass lens system with achromatic, colour-true and distortion-free quality lenses allows reading of micro and also nano text.
If you are examining entire documents to see as many features as possible in a short period of time, we recommend choosing 15x magnification. If your work focuses in detail on the security features itself, their making and even the finest surface deviations, choose 22x magnification – especially if you are working away from the frontline and have enough time for a thorough analysis.

4 Extra Strong UV LEDs 365 nm

The UV light, with 4 extra strong UV LEDs (365 nm), enables optimal examination of UV security colours both through the main lens and from at a short distance when lifting the device off the document. Check nanotext and various fibres on passports and banknotes. Also ideal for effortless detection of UV features on polycarbonate cards.

4 White Incident Light LEDs

White incident light enables you to check even the finest print details such as micro or nano text with 4 strong LEDs (bright field illumination). Check which printing technique was used to print a document (laser printing, inkjet, offset printing, etc.) and detect any manipulations.

The incident light can also be switched from full to single mode. In this case, only one of the 4 LEDs lights up and can be rotated clockwise/counterclockwise automatically or manually. Use it to check identigrams, holograms and OVIs (similar to coaxial light).

8 LEDs for Rotating Oblique Light

Doculus Lumus® contains 8 LEDs as a standard for automatic/manual clockwise or counterclockwise rotation of the oblique light. With the help of the 8 LEDs, which shine on the document one after the other in 45° steps, shadows are created on raised or recessed features (dark field illumination).
The oblique light enables the inspection of intaglio prints, embossings and colour-changing holograms as well as OVIs. Colour-changing elements look different depending on the angle of incidence of the light. This gives you the option of 3D-realistic detection of DOVIDs (Diffractive Optically Variable Image Device).

Torchlight Mode

Use Doculus Lumus® as a torch and to check watermarks. The torch mode allows for optimal illumination even in a very bright environment. The higher light intensity allows you to backlight watermarks and in dark environments you can use this mode as a torch substitute to illuminate close objects.

Standard Features – Device

Smartphone Documentation

Click the battery cover of Doculus Lumus® into the documentation position and place your mobile phone flat on the device. No additional app is necessary for photo documentation. Simply use the camera app on your smartphone and take pictures and videos. Click here for a tutorial for lifting the battery lid properly:
For easier use of the Doculus Lumus® with smartphone, we recommend using the smartphone adapter (See Accessories).

Steady Light Mode for Documentation Purpose

The Steady Light is activated for 1 minute when the desired light function is clicked 3 times. This means that there is no need to keep a button pressed while checking a document. This mode is especially popular for photo or video documentation purposes with a smartphone or webcam.

Clicking a light function 4 times activates Trainer Mode (5 minutes of continuous light).

High Robustness

Doculus Lumus® is specially designed for outdoor use and is drop-proof from a height of 1.5 metres (tested on concrete).

The housing is water-repellent and the internal electronics are dust-protected. The lens can be kept clean with the enclosed microfibre cloth.

Left / Right Handed Mode

By default, the button assignment is selected for right-handers. In most cases, left-handers want to be able to operate the incident light, UV light and torch light with their thumb. To make this possible, Doculus Lumus® is equipped with a left-handed mode!

RFID: ICAO Check

The RFID transponder quick check allows verifying the transponders that are integrated in passports or ID cards. Therefor you can check authenticity, proper function and transponder type in a second. Distinguish between different RFID types as defined in ISO 14443.

AS: Anti Stokes Laser 980 nm

For the Anti-Stokes effect printed fluorescent particles of rare earths are irradiated with a strong light source with higher wavelength. The particles then emit radiation in the range of lower wavelengths. The laser serves as a coherent radiation source with invisible infrared radiation in the near range at 980 nm.

IR: Infra-Red LED 870 nm

The IR LED with a center wavelength of 870 nm is perfectly suited to display IR security features in the 830 to 925 nm range. Since wavelengths in the infrared range are invisible to the human eye, an additional camera sensor is needed for visualization. For this, we recommend using a smartphone or webcam to take a picture through the lens.

UVC for Bifluo UV check in paper and PC

This variant is optimised for UVC features in paper and polycarbonate in the 254 nm range. Compared to conventional UVC ring tubes, these LEDs offer the advantage of better illumination and are less likely to break if dropped. The unique LED combination enables perfect visualisation of bifluorescent inks on paper and polycarbonate.

Energy Options

2 AAA Batteries Lasting 3 – 5 Months (standard)

Doculuslumus is supplied with 2 AAA batteries as standard. These last 3 5 months depending on the type of use. They are available worldwide and guarantee a reliable power supply even in frontline use without a charger or socket.

Panasonic Eneloop Rechargeable Batteries

Panasonic Eneloop rechargeable batteries are an eco-friendly and economical choice, capable of being recharged up to 2,100 times. They are pre-charged and have a low self-discharge rate, meaning they are ready to use and maintain their charge over long periods. These high-power batteries perform well even in extreme conditions, with reliable operation at temperatures as low as -20°C. We recommend Eneloop batteries for the Doculus Lumus® device and will be happy to offer advice on the different models available!

LI: Lithium Ion Battery 300 mAh

Use the integrated Lithium-Ion battery and continue with 2 standard AAA batteries when the accumulator runs low. Doculus Lumus® versions with Lithium-Ion battery have an operation time of approx. 1 month in 2 shifts. If this optional feature is chosen, the device still also works with 2 AAA batteries or rechargeables.

Multiple energy sources for extended operation time

Use multiple energy sources! Doculus Lumus® operates with an optional integrated Li-ion accumulator, 2 AAA batteries, or eneloop rechargeable batteries. If the accumulator is low, simply insert AAA batteries and the device switches to the new energysource automatically (patented). Charge via USB-C when back at the office. The device ensures constant LED brightness even with low energy.
